Family of Hyderabad student killed in US seeks MEA help

Hyderabad: Even as they are yet to come out of the shock of losing a dear one, the family of Bethapudi Naga Tulasi Ram, who was killed in a multi-car collision in Connecticut in the United States, are now caught in a new dilemma. Their efforts to bring Ram’s body here have been hit by the procedural delays associated with getting a passport and visa. None of them have a passport as of now. On Thursday, they approached the Ministry of External Affairs and the State government, seeking help in obtaining the passport and visa at the earliest, so that they could go to the US and bring Ram’s body back home.

Ram’s brother-in-law, Nagaraju, said a request was made to the MEA through its official Twitter account requesting to speed up the application process that was submitted for obtaining a passport and visa. “We have consulted a legislative member in the city and forwarded a proposal to the State government urging for the same,� he said, adding that the officials were asked to help them send at least two persons from the family.

A resident of Qutbullahpur, Ram, a 27-year-old B.Tech graduate was living along with his father and younger sister. He lost his mother in his childhood, and he completed his graduation from a local private engineering college in 2015. “After his graduation, he went to Waterbury and was attending the University of Bridgeport as part of his post-graduation course,� said Raj Kiran, a relative, adding that Ram had taken up a part-time job as well.

According to information reaching them, Ram was reportedly walking when he was he caught in a multi-car collision. Shelton police identified the victim of the Wednesday’s (IST) crash as Tulasi Ram, but have not released any other information. As per media reports from Connecticut, Shelton Detective Christopher Nugent said police had responded to a report of a multi-vehicle accident with a pedestrian struck at about 6 am on Wednesday (IST).
