Travis Head happy to do an encore of Guwahati

Hyderabad: Australia’s middle-order batsman Travis Head, who paved way for the visitor’s thumping eight-wicket victory in the second T20 at Guwahati on Tuesday, said that he was happy to play the knock and see his side through to keep the series alive.

The left-handed Head scored an unbeaten 48 runs and added an unbeaten 109 runs with Moises Henriques (62 no) to guide their side to a series-levelling eight-wicket victory. “I am delighted to have guided the side to victory with the series on the line. Moises played a good knock and I am able to contribute with the bat and do my bit for the team. I am happy to see some runs from my bat and would love to do that here,” he said on Thursday.

He added that he was disappointed at not getting big runs despite starting well on many occasions in the series. “It was pretty disappointing personally not a make a big impact in the series. I am able to get starts but did not make it big throughout the series. I had some poor execution of shots. I haven’t done little things right. It was nice to get runs in the last game. It’s been a tough tour and it is always nice to get some runs,” he said.

The Aussie middle order batsman further added that he would like to use the opportunities he gets and score runs to make his case for a place in the team. “Whenever there is an opportunity, I want to put my hand up and score runs. There are those chances to make my place in the side. I knew I had to score runs in this series.”

He revealed that he had made small changes in the practice to adjust to the conditions. “Yes. We have slowed down a bit to understand the conditions. I made few changes in the practice to adjust to the pace of the wicket. As a team we think different and try different things.”

He conceded that despite getting his chances higher up in the batting order he failed to grab them. “I missed few chances. I did get opportunities at No. 4. But I failed to grab them. Hopefully I will get more chances in the ODIs and I am eager to make the chances count. I haven’t really taken that opportunity that as I would have really liked. I scored runs in practice games but didn’t work that in the ODIs game. I feel I can do that when the opportunity rises,” he concluded.
