18 years of Kuch Kuch Hota hai

Kuch Kuch Hota hai is one of those Indian coming-of-age-romantic comedy drama films, which was released on October 16, 1989. It has been 18 years since the release of the movie. Here are a few behind-the-screen secrets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

* Samlan Khan was not the first choice to play the role of Kajol’s fiancé, Aman Mehra. Saif Ali Khan was supposed to be casting the role but dropped out and, immediately, the ‘Bhai’ of Bollywood took his place. At the same time, Kajol was also not the first choice for the role of Anjali. Just because Juhi Chawla didn’t want to play the role, Kajol was pulled into the movie.

* A scene where a guy pleads with his girlfriend to leave him as he found a new girl was played by two reputed people of Bollywood. The role of the guy was played by Nikhil Advani, director of Kal Ho Na Ho and the girl by Farah Khan.

* The role of Tina was originally written by Karan Johar for his BFF Twinkle Khanna. The name was also inspired from her name, but, somehow, Twinkle turned down the role. Later, Aishwarya Rai Bachhan, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Tabu also turned down the role, which was ultimately offered to Rani Mukherjee.

* Kajol had a serious injury while shooting and she actually lost consciousness for some time. During the bike riding sequence, Kajol lost her balance and fell down badly where she cut her knee. You can also see her losing control and almost falling off the bike in one of the scenes.

* Husky voice for women is, sometimes, a boon and, sometimes, a bane. Karan Johar wanted Rani Mukherjee’s voice to be dubbed as it was too husky. But, once the movie was out, it soon went on to become her trademark.
