Telangana to focus on cost of doing business

Hyderabad: Telangana has brought about 350 reforms this year to improve the ease of doing business in the State. More reforms are in the offing as the focus now is on reducing the cost as well as improving the quality of doing business to attract more investments, said Industry Minister KT Rama Rao.

Addressing a meeting with industrialists on Saturday, he said Telangana has been rated as the number one State in the ease of doing business. “It will be a challenging task to retain the top ranking due to the intense competition between States and even countries to attract investments,” he said.

Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu recently lauded Telangana as a progressive and dynamic State, KTR said. The State has also witnessed the highest investment growth rate at 79% in the past three years, as reported by industry body Assocham.

He urged industrialists to be brand ambassadors for the State. On the GST, the Minister said there were some technical issues that needed to be sorted out. Finance Minister Etela Rajender is working with a ministerial group led by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on this, he said.

Even as there are opportunities to set up new businesses, the State is also working to provide a simple exit for industrial ventures, he said. It has also held deliberations with the RBI Governor on micro, small and medium enterprises. The focus is on reviving sick companies and financial support will be extended based on the techno-economic viability. The State has started industrial health clinics, a first of its kind initiative, the Minister said.
